1) Stay a few days
Whether your short-term rental is on the property you live at or located in another city, take a few days to stay overnight. Pack what you normally would to go on vacation. Spend some time in the rental during the day and in the evening.
See if there are things missing that you wish you had access to. Take a critical look around the place. How clean and organized is it? Consider your comfort level during your stay. Do you get a good night’s rest in the bed? If there are multiple beds, try sleeping in each one on a different night. Try out the appliances in your rental to make sure they work efficiently. Take notice of everything and judge your overall satisfaction after staying there for a few days.
2) Have a trusted loved one stay at the property for a few days
You may find it hard to be critical as the owner of the property. Maybe you want an outside opinion, one you truly trust. Choose a loved one who you respect to stay in the property. Someone you know will be honest with you about their stay. Let them know you want their honest opinion about needed improvements, as well as what you shouldn’t change.
After a few days, have your loved one report back on their recommendations. Remember to not get defensive, as it can be easy to feel slighted when someone provides critical feedback. Remember that your loved one is providing the feedback because you asked them to be honest and that their responses can help you improve the experience for future guests.
3) Talk with a property manager
